Bay Port Receives $5,000 Grant from Bayer CropScience
Bay Port High School senior Julia Stanzel won a $5,000 grant from Bayer CropScience for the school’s agriculture program. The award was presented Friday, March 6 at halftime of the regional semifinal boys basketball game. For a complete press release on the grant award, click here.
Bay View Wins National Phy Ed Competition Powered by adidas and IHT
Bay View Middle School won a national Physical Education contest sponsored by adidas and Interactive Health Technologies (IHT), competing against over 15,000 students from across the country. Students participated in a nationwide 30-day heart rate challenge, collectively burning over 61,656,391 calories and spending 2,452,960 minutes in moderate-to-vigorous-physical-activity in their target heart rate zone. Bay View Middle School, in the Howard-Suamico School District, was recently named the “Spirit of Excellence Award” winner among middle schools in Wisconsin. The award is given to the top middle school in the state demonstrating excellence in leadership development, school spirit, sportsmanship, and service to school and community.
The award is sponsored by top state educational associations including the Wisconsin Association of Student Councils (WASC), the Wisconsin Association of Middle Level Educators (WAMLE), the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA), and the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA). Representatives of the organizations will attend an all-school assembly at Bay View on Thursday, March 5 to present the award to students, staff, and administration. The public and media are also welcome.
“This is a great honor for our middle school and our entire school district,” said Bay View Middle School Principal Steven Meyers. “To be recognized out of over 200 middle schools in the state of Wisconsin is a real tribute to our school’s commitment to offer students quality opportunities to develop service, leadership, sportsmanship, and school spirit. The Bay View staff continuously gives beyond expectations and our students respond in exemplary fashion.”
Meyers also recognized Bay View’s award-winning student council which applied for the award under the leadership of students Paige Kopke and Victoria Weseloh, and advisers Mary Swinford and Gail Burant.
Bay View Middle School was also a “Spirit of Excellence Award” winner in 2013 and was a runner-up for the award in 2014.
Howard Elementary Nominated for National Blue Ribbon Award
Howard Elementary is one of only eight schools in Wisconsin to be nominated by the DPI for the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award, State Superintendent Tony Evers announced January 15. Lineville one of four state schools in Packers “Play 60″ Challenge
Lineville Intermediate School is one of four schools statewide competing in the Green Bay Packers “Play 60″ Challenge.
Bay Port, The Giving Tree Win $15,000 from Cellcom Project Innovate
Cellcom awarded Bay Port High School and The Giving Tree $15,000 for a second-place finish in the Project Innovate voting challenge. The funds will be used to support individual wireless internet access devices for families in need who cannot provide wireless access at home. After residing in fifth place for most of the month-long competition among 11 local schools, Bay Port supporters rallied to finish second in the closing days of the competition. Suamico Elementary School Receives National Blue Ribbon Status from U.S. Secretary of Education
Suamico Elementary’s selection is in recognition of its ability to maintain high achievement standards over the last five years. Suamico Elementary is among schools in the top 15 percent for performance levels on the state’s reading and mathematics assessments and is considered within the “Exemplary High Performing School” category.
Gold Health Award
Bay View Middle School recently was named a Gold Wisconsin School Health Award winner by the State of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin School Health Award was created as a way to recognize and celebrate schools with policies, programs, and the infrastructure to support and promote healthy eating; physical activity; alcohol-, tobacco-, and
