The HSSD Board of Education approves the number of available seats during the January Board of Education meeting each year. Students are selected through a lottery and will be notified no later than June 5, 2026.

A student enrolled in a public school (high school grade levels) may attend public school in a nonresident school district for the purpose of taking a course offered by the nonresident school district.

DPI - Alternative Open Enrollment Application Information

Parents apply for open enrollment during the Open Enrollment application period, which runs February - April. However, 2011 Act 114 established a procedure by which parents may apply for open enrollment outside of the regular application period. Alternative Open Enrollment begins July 1 each year.  

If you moved outside of the HSSD boundary and want your child to continue attending the district, additional paperwork may be required.

Transportation for open enrolled students is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. For additional information regarding qualifications for transportation reimbursement, please visit the WI Department of Public Instruction website.
