HSSD Music Education Program Receives National Recognition

The Howard-Suamico School District (HSSD) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. HSSD is one of 26 Wisconsin school districts to be recognized with the accolade this year.

“We are incredibly proud of our HSSD music education staff and the indelible experiences they create for our students, families, and community members,” said Superintendent Damian LaCroix. “To be considered one of the Best Communities for Music Education is a great honor and yet I am sure it is no surprise to the many people who attend HSSD concerts and performances. Our program is growing thanks to exceptional educators, passionate support in our community, and recognition such as this award.”

This designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the Best Communities for Music designation, HSSD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
