DKG Writing Competition Award Winners

Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) is an international organization that promotes the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The local Zeta chapter of DKG hosted the local literary competition earlier this year in which several of our HSSD students won awards. Students in grades 3-12 in Wisconsin are welcome to enter. The contest focuses on stories that are either personal narrative or fantasy/science fiction. There are word limits for each grade level and the book must include illustrations.

A ceremony was held at the Brown County Library in Green Bay on March 11, 2025 to recognize the local winners. Congratulations to the local winners from HSSD!

  • River Christenson, Grade 3 - 1st place (Meadowbrook)
  • Bennett Peters, Grade 5 - 1st place (Lineville)
  • Hayley Carriere, Grade 5 - 2nd place (Lineville)
  • Mason Boucher, Grade 3 - 3rd place (Bay Harbor)
  • Elliot Thibaudeau, Grade 4 - Honorable mention (Meadowbrook)
  • Nora Thibaudeau, Grade 4 - Honorable mention (Meadowbrook)

Students that placed first at their grade level in the local competition had their books automatically entered at the state competition.

State Results:

  • River Christenson's Book - "How a Furby Became President of the Moon" won an art award for her marker illustrations.
  • Bennett Peters' Book - "The Best & Worst Day on the Bay" placed 3rd for the 5th grade entries. This is Bennett's second time placing at the state level. He also placed as a 3rd grader.

River and Bennett are both invited to the DKG Wisconsin state convention on May 3 to receive their awards.

Thank you to our HSSD teachers and families for supporting our young authors!
