Bay Port Students & Bay View Teacher Win Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Awards

The Howard-Suamico School District (HSSD) is proud to announce the district’s recipients of the 2023 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Awards. Congratulations to Jovita D’souza and Eloise Massee of Bay Port High School for being named Student Excellence Scholars, and Kelly Koller of Bay View Middle School for being named a Teacher Fellow.

As winners of the Student Excellence Scholarship, D’souza and Massee will each be awarded $10,000 for demonstrating academic excellence and a broad range of activity and leadership in the community. After high school, both students plan to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. D’souza will pursue a double major in computer engineering and computer science, and Massee a double major in mathematics and political science (pre-law).

Bay View Technology Integration Specialist and Teacher Fellow Kelly Koller will be awarded $6,000 for her leadership and service in and out of the classroom, and her ability to inspire a love of learning and to motivate her students. Koller plans to use her awarded funds to support outdoor learning at Bay View, and the school’s movement through the Green and Healthy Schools program.

In total, 306 Wisconsin students, teachers, and administrators were named recipients of the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation awards this year. Since 1990, the foundation has awarded nearly $34 million to Wisconsin educators, principals, students, and schools. Every year, the foundation seeks nominations for outstanding school staff and students. Learn more about the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation at: https://www.kohleducation.org/.
