Substitute Teachers

All applicants must apply online only and already hold a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license.

• Applicants with initial/provisional, master level, lifetime and/or 5-year renewable Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teaching license are preferred.
• DPI Short-term Substitute Permits may be considered with desired, relevant qualifications, including but not limited to successful prior experience providing direct instruction to youth or community-based experience working with youth and their families.
• Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated empathy and compassion
  • Knowledge of content

Thank you for your interest in HSSD! Please work with your college or university regarding Student-Teacher opportunities at HSSD. Your college/university will reach out to HSSD on your behalf. 

In an effort to give back to education and support the work of teacher education programs, we provide an authentic learning environment for student-teachers to satisfy their clinical placement requirements. We benefit from a partnership that contributes to their development in the field as well as the professional growth of our cooperating teachers. 

We are intentional about building relationships with area universities that result in the development of teacher candidates who are a perfect fit for our district. We want to ensure that aspiring teachers and our potential future employees are receiving relevant and rigorous preparation in order to be successful in the classroom.

Students are invited to participate in mock interviews, gain targeted experience by partnering with literacy teachers, and receive instruction and guidance about how to increase their chances of landing their first teaching job.
