Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP)

In order to become a volunteer within HSSD, you must:

• Create a volunteer profile (do this first)
• Pass a background check

Already Have a Volunteer Account?

Create an Account

1. Visit the Volunteer Login Page.
2. Enter Howard in the Keyword field.
3. Click on the school name at which you would like to volunteer. 
4. Click Fill in Application at the top right of the page.
5. Complete the information under I Am New to VolunteerPage.
   • Read the policies and check I agree.
   • Save and continue. 

Volunteer Needs

• Adult Mentors
  • Positive adult role models meet once per week with a student to help set goals, to acknowledge success, etc. 
  • The school social workers and teachers provide support and assistance for Adult Mentors.
• Professional Mentors
• Guest Speakers
• Career Shadow Volunteers
• Academic Coaches and Tutors
  • Volunteers work one-on-one or with small groups of students who may need a little extra help and confidence building in core subject areas. 
  • Training is provided. 
• Parent Organization Program Volunteers
  • Parent Organization Program volunteers are needed in every school to assist with events, fundraisers, etc.

Update Your Profile

1. Visit the Volunteer Login Page.
2. Enter login information.
   • If you’ve forgotten your login information, directions for retrieving your information is on that screen. 
3. Click on My Profile to make your profile updates. 

Add a School

Note: Do not remove yourself from a previous school until you have added your profile to the new school.

1. Visit the Volunteer Login Page.
2. Enter Howard in the Keyword field.
3. Click on the school name at which you would like to volunteer. 
4. Click Fill in Application at the top right of the page.
5. Enter username and password under I Already Have a Username.
6. Read the policies and check I agree.
7. Click Log In and Continue. 

Your application will be sent to HSSD and you will receive a confirmation email that the additional school has been added to your profile. If you have students in multiple schools, be sure to have your profile connected with each school.

Remove a School

1. Visit the Volunteer Login Page.
2. Enter login information.
   1. If you’ve forgotten your login information, directions for retrieving your information is on that screen. 
3. Click My Profile on the top right. 
4. Click Organizations
5. Scroll to the school you want to remove and click Resign From
6. Select reason.
7. Click Resign.

Create an Account

1. Visit the Volunteer Login Page.
2. Enter Howard in the Keyword field.
3. Click on the school name at which you would like to volunteer. 
4. Click Fill in Application at the top right of the page.
5. Complete the information under I Am New to VolunteerPage.
   1. Read the policies and check I agree.
   2. Save and continue. 

• Provide volunteers for enrichment experiences for students to supplement their core curriculum.
• Provide supervised, individualized educational assistance to students.
• Provide programmatic and event support for co-curricular activities.
• Assist teachers with non-instructional duties enabling them to increase their individual attention to students in need.
• Assist staff with some office and facility duties enabling them to increase their individual attention to needs that have a positive, direct impact on students.
• Establish a strong culture of civic engagement, service, and volunteerism within our schools and surrounding communities across generations.
• Stimulate and nurture community interest, concern, and support for our students, teachers, schools, and programs.
• Stimulate and nurture student interest, concern, and support for the needs within our community.
• Assist in the improvement of students’ self-worth by increasing the opportunity for educational achievement and success in and out of the classroom.
• Enhance all aspects of the educational and community development process.
• Provide opportunities for school/community partnerships that result in mutually benefiting outcomes.
