The purpose of Leadership HSSD is to build informed, connected community leaders who:

Understand district challenges and opportunities
Contribute diverse perspectives
Advocate for the future of HSSD.

Leadership HSSD is a strategic, immersive experience designed to connect community members to the vision, mission, challenges, and innovations shaping HSSD. Participants serve as informed ambassadors, trusted thought partners, and community connectors.

Sessions include presentations, small-group discussions, and opportunities for active dialogue with school and community leaders. Light refreshments, snacks, and materials will be provided.

Considering Applying?

We are seeking a balanced cohort of 25-30 participants that reflects geographic distribution (across schools/zones), a mix of professions and life stages, and varied levels of previous school involvement. No prior knowledge of public education or school operations is required - only a willingness to listen, learn, and contribute.

Are eager to understand how public schools operate.
Are willing to explore complex issues.
Approach topics with a mindset of inquiry, not judgment.
Are already active or visible in the community (professionally, civically, or socially).
Are willing to share learning and perspectives with others (e.g., through conversations, networks, or social media).
Bring ideas and listen respectfully to others.
Are open to learning from school leaders and fellow participants.
Understand that improvement comes from dialogue and partnership.

Parents of current or future HSSD students
Grandparents or guardians
Business or nonprofit leaders
Civic or elected leaders
Alumni or retired staff
Faith or community organization members
Individuals who have expressed interest, concern, or curiosity about schools
Potential future school board members or committee volunteers

Participant Expectations

Leadership HSSD participants are asked to make a meaningful commitment of time and engagement:

Nine sessions.
Participants are asked to attend 8 of the 9 sessions.
Sessions are held once a month from September through May.
Each session is 2 hours in length on a Friday morning.
Active listening, thoughtful engagement, and participation in activities.
Serve as a connector who shares insights from the experience with others in your networks.

Meeting dates and topics will be finalized prior to the first Leadership HSSD meeting in 2025-26.
