Community Pool

General Pool Rules

1. Admission may be denied to any person for the following reasons:
   • Open wounds or sores
   • Wearing inappropriate swim attire
2. Children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
3. Long hair must be tied back or put into a cap.
4. Showers must be taken before entering the pool.
5. No food, gum, or beverages are allowed on the pool deck. 
6. Walk, do not run, in aquatic facility.
7. Do not walk in the pool gutter.
8. Diving is not allowed in the shallow end.
9. Enter the pool facing forward. Do not enter backwards.
10. Rough play, dunking, fighting, riding on another person’s shoulders, or throwing other patrons is not allowed.
11. Hanging on the ropes, safety line, starting blocks, or diving board is not permitted.
12. Abusive, profane, or offensive language will not be permitted.
13. Patrons are not allowed in the “staff only” areas.
14. The pool supervisor on duty may suspend and/or eject any persons form the pool area for violation of pool rules and not following the directions of the pool staff.
15. Water wings are not allowed. Please use Coast Guard approved life jackets. (Available upon request.)

Large Group Rules

1. Groups must provide 1 adult in the water for every 5 children under the age of 8.
2. Groups must provide 1 adult in the water for every 10 children between the ages of 9-12.
3. Lifeguards are in charge at all times. Adults in attendance are expected to assist lifeguards.

Diving Area Rules

1. Children must pass the deep water swim test in order to use the diving board or be in the deep end of the pool. The swim test includes swimming front crawl the width of 6 lanes in shallow water.
2. Starting blocks are for swim team use only.
3. Only dive forward off the diving board.
4. All flips and/or twists off the diving board are permitted at the discretion of the lifeguard on duty.
5. Do not sit on the diving board.
6. Do not hang on the diving board.
7. Only one person is allowed on the board at a time.
8. Divers should swim immediately to the nearest ladder to exit the water.
9. Do not swim under the diving board.
10. Do not swim into diving area.
11. Individuals are not permitted to catch or assist children jumping from the diving board.

Pool Closures

The pool reserves the right to close due to severe weather or water conditions. If HSSD cancels school/activities, pool programs are cancelled and the pool will be closed. For any weather related late starts, the pool will open no earlier than 9:30 a.m.

Wisconsin Pool Codes

The Howard-Suamico Community Pool is maintained in accordance with Chapter ATCP 76. The Howard-Suamico Community Pool staffs Red Cross certified Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors.
