About us
Welcome to the Howard-Suamico School District

Howard-Suamico School District prides itself on delivering a comprehensive education to every child.  We are regarded both regionally and nationally as a high performing school system.   For example, Bay Port High School has been recognized by Newsweek and the Washington  Post as one of the top high schools in the nation.  Furthermore, the District was named
by the Wisconsin Center for Performance Excellence as a Proficiency Award Winner in 2011.

Serving - Learning - Achieving -  Together!

Our mission is to “work together with families and community to ensure that our students have the knowledge and skills to succeed in a changing world.” Correspondingly, Howard-Suamico has twice been included in the Greater Green Bay area’s recognition as one of the nation’s 100 Best Communities for Young People by America’s Promise.  This honor recognizes the broad base of commitment that exists in our community for providing healthy, safe and caring environments for our students.  In fact, Kiplinger’s Magazine touted our area as one of its Top Five Places to Raise a Family.  Our community is in agreement.  In April 2011, 95 percent of parent survey respondents expressed a response of very satisfied or satisfied when asked about the school district.  Moreover, 90 percent of community residents recently graded the school district with an “A” or “B”.

Thanks in part to a devoted and award-winning team of employees, our students repeatedly score well above the state average on standardized tests.  Transitioning from “effectiveness to greatness” as a school district has become our collective expectation.  To attain this goal, we have made significant investments in literacy, math, technology, facilities, and professional training.  The District’s strategic plan and its tactical allocation of resources fortifies our commitment to helping every child find their unique path in an increasingly complex and dynamic world.

While test results are important, we recognize that the ultimate success of our students is based on so much more than an assessment number. That is, our school community intentionally nurtures, models, and promotes positive character and life skills.  Similarly, we believe it is our job to ensure that students graduate from our school system as productive, responsible and civic-minded people.  Put simply, the “common good” depends not only on the cultivation of “smart” minds - but also on the development of “caring” hearts.

Forces of change are altering modern life as we know it.  As we look to the future, however, we also learn from the past.  The “father of public schools”, Horace Mann, was right when he asserted more than 150 years ago that the formula for a better world lay in the simple words of the proverb, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

I am confident that you will find that Howard-Suamico School District is a special place due to its enduring commitment to the causes of children, character, and community.  Best wishes on a positive and productive school year!
