What is 4K?
The Howard and Suamico Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Community Collaborative is a
research-based initiative to provide learning opportunities through play-based instruction for all four-year-old children in the Howard and Suamico communities. This program is offered to all children who will be four years old on or before September 1, of any given academic year. Howard and Suamico 4K is an optional program that prepares children for school success.
Howard and Suamico 4K is accomplished through a collaborative community approach where the 4K school experience takes place at several preschool and daycare sites within both villages. Classes are ½ day sessions that meet four days per week. Transportation is provided to participants living within the Howard-Suamico School District boundaries. All classes are taught by licensed Department of Public Instruction teachers.
Children learn and develop best in a positive, safe, play-based, age appropriate environment.
Families are recognized as their child's first teachers and primary role models.
Children and family diverse backgrounds will be respected.
The partnership between family, school, and community will support each child's growth and development.
Children are actively engaged in their learning.
